There are prior requirements you have to possess in order to take the CISSP Exam. People have to possess a minimum of five years of direct full-time security work experience. One of these years can be foregone if the student has a four year college degree to their name. One of the years of full-time security work can also be foregone if the student possesses a Masters Degree in Information Security. Other certifications can also serve to knock the 1 year off the requirement.

If a candidate does not possess the five years of direct full-time security work, they can instead earn a Associate of designation by passing the required course work.
