Companies seek candidates that possess CISSP certification because it is one of the only truly respected accreditations available. There are many people with information systems security credentials but their certifications don’t come with a guarantee that they possess real world job skills. This simple fact has stood the test of time. People who attain the CISSP certification have five years of real world job experience in the area of information systems security, guaranteed. What Is the ISC and What Does It Have to Do with CISSP Certification?

The ISC is an acronym as well. It stands for the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium or (ISC)2. This is pronounced ISC squared. It’s basically a non-profit organization based out of Palm Harbor, Florida. They are well known for turning out some of the best information security professionals in the world and the well known CISSP certification stems from their teachings.

This organization celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2009. It has over 63,000 members in 138 countries and has offices in London, Hong Kong and Tokyo. The ISC2 certification was born out of necessity. The mid 1980′s gave birth to the need for a standardized certification program that provided structure and demonstrated competence in the field of information systems security.
